While researching for the Estate’s wine label, I came across this photograph of Georg Leisner (1870-1957), taken by his wife, and fellow archaeologist, Vera. For over 50 years,  Georg and Vera dedicated most of their work to the standing stones and the natural outcrops of the Alentejo, leading to much of what is known today on the early neolithic settlements in Iberia. Their research at Barrocal is at the foundation of our work, and his beautiful drawings on rock formations, the barrocais, are at the core of the Estate’s identity.
