Grab a mountain bike and discover the estate and the ancestral landscape of the region, riding its dirt tracks, gentle hills and ancient olive groves; venture out in sinuous trails and through granite outcrops, the ‘barrocais’, accessing places you can not usually reach by car, and get immersed in nature and in local stories. If you feel like an explorer, opt for the trail that leaves the estate and takes you through the menhirs, dolmens and stone circles, till the top of Monsaraz hill and back through the estate’s vineyards; if you want a shorter ride, opt for the trails inside the property. Keep in mind that we also have three top-of-the-line Husqvarna electrical mountain bikes available to do these same trails.
Olive Trees Trail
Along this trail you will pass through several thousand-year-old olive trees, the tallest menhir in Portugal (and its original rock), and the vineyards of the estate.
Birds Trail
Biking this trail, you will cross your path with stork nests installed in poplars, ducks, larks and other birds that visit us throughout the year; you will also see the old Roman dam, today a small pond that is a perfect scenery for picnics, the cattle that graze here, and the fabulous landscape of the great lake Alqueva with its two castles: one in Monsaraz and other in Mourão.
Barrocal Trail
This trail combines the two trails existent in the estate, the Olive Trees Trail and the Birds Trail, allowing you to get to know the landscape of the property in depth and pass through all its points of major relevance: menhir, ancient olive trees, vineyards, and view of the Alqueva lake.
Menhir's Trail
The perfect trail to explore the surroundings of the estate, crossing small villages, chapels, menhirs, dolmens, and cromlechs - discover the megalithic past of the region, as well as its landscape of vineyards, olive groves, and holm-oaks; go up to the top of Monsaraz hill, where, from the walls of its castle, you can see the great lake Alqueva, and down using the old Roman road, leading to our vineyards and olive trees.
