From sheep to yarn workshop

More than just a craft

Historically, the Alentejo has always been very connected with sheep and all the things they can give us. From milk to cheese, each thing has its important place in the region's cultural context, and wool is another example of that. Merino sheep are autochthonous of this part of the country and to this day remain an important part of local, small businesses. Together with the neighboring textile studio of Paula Neves, you'll be able to discover all of this: what sheep are there in the Alentejo, what are their traits, their types of wool, and much more, culminating in your own, handmade yarn.

Get your hands busy

How does fluffy sheep's wool become soft yarn? The answer involves a lot of steps and very meticulous handwork. With the help of our local expert, Paula Neves, you'll be able to do it all, from the washing to the brushing of the wool, culminating with the spinning of your very own yarn. This workshop aims to help you better understand the work and technique involved in making something that eventually will become something apparently simple as a sweater or scarf. This way we help to showcase this and to give due importance to artisans like Paula.
